Bernstine to Host Free Shredding Event in Ellwood City
July 1, 2025
ELLWOOD CITY – In an effort to help residents protect themselves against identity theft, Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) will host a free community shredding event on Saturday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ellport Borough Building, located at 313 Burns Ave., Ellwood City.
This event offers residents of the 8th Legislative District an opportunity to securely dispose of documents containing sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, account information or medical records.
“Identity theft continues to be a serious concern, and this event offers a secure and convenient way for residents to safely dispose of personal documents they no longer need,” Bernstine said. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of this free service.”
Examples of items suitable for shredding include old tax returns, bank and credit card statements, insurance documents, and other papers containing personal or financial information. All documents will be shredded on-site by a professional shredding company and then recycled. Phonebooks, newspapers and bound books cannot be accepted.
“As you take steps to protect your information and identity, you’ll make yourself a more difficult target for thieves and may even stop them in their tracks,” said Bernstine.
No advance registration is required to participate in the event. For more information, residents should call Bernstine’s offices at 724-847-5291 or 724-752-2120.
