Bernstine Announces Funding Awarded to Fire, EMS Companies in 8th District

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) today announced local fire companies and emergency medical services (EMS) agencies were awarded state grants totaling nearly $216,000 from the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program.

The program was created by the Legislature and is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reduction of existing debt.

“Local fire and EMS agencies are the backbone of our community’s safety, and it’s crucial that we support them with the resources they need to operate effectively,” said Bernstine. “These grants will help ensure our first responders have the equipment, training and facilities necessary to protect and serve our residents. It’s an investment that strengthens public safety for everyone in the 8th District.”

Below is a list of local fire companies and EMS agencies and the amounts they received:

• Borough of Ellwood City Fire Department - $13,094.
• Ellwood City Volunteer Fire Department - $13,309.
• New Beaver Borough Volunteer Fire Department - $12,018.
• Scott Township Volunteer Fire Department - $13,525.
• Slippery Rock Township Volunteer Fire Department - $12,234.
• Volant Volunteer Fire Company - $13,525.
• Wampum Volunteer Fire Department - $12,449.
• Wurtemburg Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department - $13,310.
• Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company - $15,892.
• Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company - $13,094.
• Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department - $13,740.
• Portersville Muddycreek Township Volunteer Fire Department - $13,310.
• Prospect Volunteer Fire Department - $13,740.
• Unionville Volunteer Fire Company - $16,322.
• West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department - $14,170.
• Enon Valley Community Volunteer Fire Department - $12,018.

All companies that apply and meet requirements outlined by OSFC receive funding. Companies must file a grant agreement with OSFC to receive their grants.
